To provide methods and compositions useful in treating certain diseases herein termed "Aberrant Programming Diseases", including cancer and AIDS.

The method for treating an individual having an Aberrant Programming Disease comprises administering to the individual an effective amount of a composition selected from the group consisting of an expression vector, a double stranded oligodeoxynucleotide, and an antisense oligodeoxynucleotide, wherein the composition is capable of regulating expression of a transcriptional regulator, the transcriptional regulator being expressed by the Aberrant Programming cells, and further characterised by exhibiting a therapeutically useful change in the cell behaviour in a Programming Test. In a separate embodiment, new antisense oligodeoxynucleotides are provided.
