To provide a method and a composition for treating neuron disorders to halt excessive synchronous neuron activity without diminishing both neuron excitation and spontaneous synchronicity necessary for peripheral and central nervous systems to normally function.

The method and the composition for treating neuropathic pain and neuropsychiatric disorders by administering a medicament effective in reducing the effective amount of, inactivating, and/or inhibiting the activity of a Na+-K+-2Cl-(NKCC) cotransporter, are provided. In a specific embodiment, the Na+-K+-2Cl- cotransporter is NKCC1. The method and the composition, because of inhibiting no neuron excitation, can be used for reducing neuron excessive synchronicity involved in neuropathic pain and/or neuropsychiatric disorders while avoiding undesired side effects which are often entailed by medicaments in current use for treating neuropathic pain and neuropsychiatric disorders.
