Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for computing tube expanding ratio by which the expanding ratio of a tube can be found easily and accurately even when the wall thickness of the tube is as thin as ≤0.5 mm.
SOLUTION: Before and after a tube 11 is expanded by putting the tube 11 over the putting-over holes 14 and 15 of tubesheets 12 and 13, an ultrasonic probe 19 is inserted into the tube 11 and ultrasonic waves are oscillated toward the internal surface of the tube 11 from the probe 19. Then bottom face echo multiplex reflected wave signals are received and subjected to Fourier transformation and the wall thicknesses of the tube 11 before and after expansion are measured form the Fourier-transformed frequency data. Finally, the expanding ratio of the tube 11 is computed from the computed wall thicknesses.
