Title:
METHOD FOR CONNECTING OPTICAL FIBERS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS63221307
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To simplify an operation for connecting optical fibers to each other by melting and adhering solder to the part where the ends of the optical fibers butt each other or the part where the optical fibers are inserted into an optical connector.

CONSTITUTION: The optical fibers 1 coated with metal such as Cu are butted against each other and are coated with a solder sleeve 4 contg. the solder 3. A heat gun 5 is placed on the surface thereof and hot air 6 is fed to melt the solder 3, by which the butt part of the optical fibers 1 is connected. The optical fibers 1 are then inserted into a metallic sleeve 2 and the solder 3 is held in place between both and a soldering iron 7 is placed on the solder 3 to melt the solder, by which the optical fibers 1 and the sleeve 2 are adhered and the optical connector 8 is formed. The connection of the metal-coated optical fibers 1 is executed by covering the fibers with the solder sleeve 4 contg. the solder 3 and the adhesion of the fibers 1 and the sleeve 2 is executed by placing the solder 3 in place therebetween and heating the solder. The operation for the connection and adhesion is thus simplified and the time for the operation is shortened.
