To provide an agricultural and horticultural agent and a control method that have a great effect on a bacterial plant disease caused by Ralstonia solanacearum or the like, which is considered as a hard-to-control disease and poses a serious problem at the production sites.SOLUTION: An agricultural and horticultural agent for controlling a bacterial plant disease contains a phenyl acetonitrile derivative represented by the following formula (R1 is H, a C1-C3 alkyl group, COCF3; R2 is H, a C1-C3 alkyl group, a halogen atom; R3 and R5 independently represent H or a halogen atom; R4 is H, a halogen atom, a phenoxy group, a C1-C3 alkyl group; R6 is H).SELECTED DRAWING: None
