To provide a method for controlling a display unit for allocating a function requiring a plurality of buttons for operation to a remote controller, and the display unit.SOLUTION: A method for controlling a projector 100 includes: receiving a user's selection of at least one function of a plurality of functions of the projector 100 as a function allocated to a button arranged on a remote controller 5; when at least one function of the plurality of functions is a function requiring a predetermined number NP (two or more) of buttons arranged on the remote controller 5 for operation, allocating the function to the predetermined number NP of buttons of the buttons arranged on the remote controller 5; and when any one button of the predetermined number NP of buttons is operated, executing a partial function corresponding to the any one button, of one function allocated to the buttons.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
