PURPOSE: To provide a method for controlling harmful organisms, especially fungi, and protecting cultivating plants by pre-treatment or after-treatment of the plants or the like with an effective amount of known and new 2- anilinopyridines.
CONSTITUTION: This method for controlling harmful organisms comprises treating harmful organisms or the plants, soils or seeds threatened by attack with the harmful organisms or materials to be protected from attack with the harmful organisms, with an effective amount of a 2-anilinopyridine of formula [R1 is 1-6C alkyl, 2-6C alkenyl, 2-6C alkynyl, 3-6C cycloalkyl, 1-6C alkoxy, halogen, CN, SCN, formyl or the like; R2 is 1-6C alkyl, 2-4C alkenyl, 2-4C alkynyl, 3-6C cycloalkyl or the like; R3 is H, CN, S(O)nR8 ((n) is 0-2; R8 is 1-3C alkyl or phenyl) or the like; R4 is H, halogen, 1-3C alkyl, 1-3C alkoxy, CN or the like], e.g. 2-(N-tosylsulfonyl)-anilino-6-cyclopropyl-4-methylpyridine.
