PURPOSE: To hold the suitable molten metal surface level by rest-raining molten metal surface vibration caused by standing wave of the molten metal surface in the inner part of a mold of a twin belt type continuous caster.
CONSTITUTION: The molten metal surface levels near the pouring positions of pouring nozzles arranged on both sides in the longitudinal direction of the mold are respectively measured and high frequency component contained in the measured signal is removed with a low-pass filter to detect the molten metal surface levels. A state variable vector is estimated from a state variable equation made by fitting beforehand the actual casting data to a multidimensional stationary time series autoregressive model and a state variable estimation calculating equation model made based on the model equation. Feedback is executed to the estimated value of this state variable vector and both the detected molten metal surface levels, and the set opening degree of an opening degree adjusting means of sliding nozzle, etc., arranged on the way of the pouring nozzle is calculated and decided from the calculating equation model decided according to a linear optional multivariable control theory utilizing the secondary criterion for evaluation.
