PURPOSE: To automatically control washing water volume, washing force, and washing time corresponding to the quantity of clothes to be washed by suitably starting or stopping water supply to meet the washing step to thereby eliminate wasteful cleasner and electric power.

CONSTITUTION: If the surface of clothes 47 is lower than water line 1 when the clothes 47 is thrown into a washing tank 1, a selection switch rotary shaft 18 is turned to make a contactor 19 contact with a contact 15. When a knob 40 is then turned to start position, a terminal 32 is not connected to terminals 34, 35 to shut off energization of washing motor. A float 7 is lowered to close a solenoid 38. A water supply solenoid valve 37 is opened to supply water. When a water level reaches a position "1", the float 7 rises to open the contact of a reed switch 9 to stop supplying water. Simultaneously, a relay 46 is energized and deenergized to move the knob 40 toward the position "43". A speed is determined in response to the voltage of the solenoid 45 to thus select the washing time.
