Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To culture microorganisms by positively using the ability of nitrate respiration of the microorganisms.SOLUTION: A method for culturing microorganisms having the ability of nitrate respiration in which nitrite ions (NO) are generated using nitrate ions (NO) as the final electron acceptor is provided which comprises: causing the culture solution to contain nitrate ions thereby causing the microorganisms to perform nitrate respiration; bringing the culture solution into contact with an electrode; giving electric potential to the electrode; and culturing the microorganisms while oxidizing the nitrite ions generated from nitrate respiration of the microorganisms.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 15
