PURPOSE: To enable cutting of a narrow glass plate by flawing one surface of the glass plate, pushing and moving the glass plate using a desired cutting position of the other surface of the flawed glass as an axial line.

CONSTITUTION: One surface (1b) of a glass plate 1 engaged with a nipping groove 3 is located at a position facing to an edge (3a) of the groove 3. The position of the glass facing to the edge (3a) is a desired cutting position (2a). A supporting member 5 is then brought into contact with one surface (1a) of the bisected glass plate 1 to push and move the other piece (1B) of the glass plate 1 nipped with the groove 3 in the direction of an arrow (a). Thereby, the desired cutting position (2a) of the glass plate 1 is brought into contact with the edge (3a). If the glass plate 1 is subsequently pushed and moved, tensile stress is applied to the one glass surface (1a) using the desired cutting position (2a) in contact with the edge (3a) as an axial line. When the tensile stress attains the limit, the glass plate 1 is bisected into pieces (1A) and (1Ba) from a line (L) connecting the flaw 2 to the desired cutting position (2a) as a cutting line.
