PURPOSE: To enable to surely cut an old roving at a position having a prescribed length sufficient for inserting the cut end of the old roving into the trumpet of a new roving in the state pulling out the single filaments without cutting the single filaments composing the roving, when the tracking piecing of the roving is automatically performed.
CONSTITUTION: A jet nozzle 14 for jetting a compressed gas toward an old roving Rl introduced into a roving-guiding groove 11 and a holding rod 24 for holding the roving on the upstream side of a position collided with the compressed gas are installed on a head main body 10 having a roving-guiding groove 11 formed at its end. A compressed gas is jetted toward the old roving R1 introduced into the roving-guiding groove 11 from the jet nozzle 14, and the jetting is stopped before the old roving is perfectly not cut. Subsequently, the head main body 10 is rotated in the direction separating its end from the trumpet in the state holding the old roving R1 with the holding rod 24 to perfectly cut the old roving R1.
