Abstract:
PURPOSE:To cut an optical fiber square to have a specular surface by loading tension on the optical fiber by the slip gripping force of clamps having the specified slip gripping force and thereby cutting the fiber. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber 2 exposed by removing the coating in the terminal part of the coated optical fiber 1 is gripped approximately horizontally in the air by a pair of the clamps 3 which can make slip gripping of the fiber with the specified slip gripping force. An initial score is given to the surface of the optical fiber 3 by applying a scoring blade 4 on the optical fiber 2 between the clamps 3 in the direction vertical thereto and thereafter, a flat pressing block 5 is pressed vertically to the side opposite to the initial score. The tension is then loaded on the optical fiber 2 by the slip gripping force of the clamps 3 and the fiber is thereby cut. The cutting of the optical fiber 2 square to the specular surface is enabled in this way and the connection loss is decreased in the field of the connection of the optical fiber 2, etc.
