Abstract:

PURPOSE: To cyclooligomerize 3-hydroxy-1-alkynes by using catalyst of reduced nickel content and of a small quantity.

CONSTITUTION: 3-Hydroxy-1-alkynes having 4-20C atoms are cyclooligomerized to 1,3,5-tris-(α-hydroxyisopropyl)-benzene with a nickel-contg. catalyst. The catalyst is formed from a nickel compd. soluble in the reaction medium, a phosphite of an ortho-substd. phenol and an organoaluminum compd. of the formula; AlR(3-n)Xn (where R is an alkyl; X is H or Cl; n is 0 or 1), or Li- or Mg-alkyl in the presence of an aprotic diluent at 0-50°C, and oligomerization of 3-hydroxy-1-alkyne is carried out at 0-80°C by adding more than 200 pts.wt. of the diluent based on 100 pts.wt. 3-hydroxy-1-alkyne.
