Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a decarburize-refining method, by which the decarburize- refining of low carbon and low alloy steel is attained in a short time and the yield of a metal component is improved and N content in the steel can be reduced as far as possible.

CONSTITUTION: Oxygen gas or mixed gas containing oxygen gas and non- oxidizing gas such as argon gas as dilute gas is blown in the atmosphere to execute the decarburization of molten steel 12 contained in a refining vessel 10. When C content in the molten steel lowers to ≤0.20%, only the non-oxidizing gas is blown after charging over to the pressure reducing condition of 20-200 Torr. In this condition, a metallic oxide and C in the molten steel 12 are brought into reaction while stirring the molten steel 12 and slag 20 to execute the reduction of the metallic oxide in the slag and the decarburization of the molten steel 12. By this method, C in the molten steel is lowered to about 0.001%.
