Abstract:

PURPOSE: To clean and deodorize used foam moldings, especially fish crates by a simple process to obtain non-contaminated foam moldings with white appearances by treating them with an aqueous solution of phosphoric acid or a water-soluble primary or secondary phosphate.

CONSTITUTION: Used foam moldings, desirably foam moldings based on a styrene polymer or a polyolefin, are treated with an aqueous solution of phosphoric acid, a water-soluble primary or secondary phosphate or a mixture thereof or treated with steam. It is desirable that the foam moldings are treated with the aqueous solution and the treated with water. It is suitable that the concentration of phosphoric acid, a phosphate or a mixture thereof in the aqueous solution is 0.001-5 wt.%. For example, Na2HPO4 or the like can be used as the water-soluble primary or secondary phosphate.
