PURPOSE: To suppress excessive lowering of the temperature of steel stock so as to perform uniform descaling, by moving a spray nozzle for descaling along the direction of the feed of the steel stock and controlling the relative speed of them.
CONSTITUTION: While the steel stock W is fed as shown by an arrow α, a high pressure water header 4 is reciprocated as shown by arrows β, γ, and turning blades 7 positioned between the high pressure water header 4 and the surface of the steel stock W is rotated in such a manner that when the high pressure water header is moved in the direction as shown by the arrow β, a window 8 is open to the spray nozzle, but when the high pressure water header is moved in the direction as shown by the arrow γ, the window 8 is turned. Therefore, during the course as shown by the arrow β, the descaling is in operation, but during the course as shown by the arrow γ the descaling is not in operation because the jetted water stream from the spray nozzle is cut by the turning blades 7, so that excessive lowering of the temperature of the steel stock W can be suppressed.
