PURPOSE: To detect water leakage accidents at an early period and to determine the leaking position of water accurately, by transducing water leakage into heat, and detecting the heating with a temperature sensor.
CONSTITUTION: In a garbage disposal plant, a water barrier sheet (a) is spread on the entire filled-up land so as to prevent the infiltration of contaminated water into underground part. The contaminated water is yielded from dumped garbage (d). The sheet is covered with a cover soil (b). When the water barrier sheet 1 is broken with some reason, a heating layer 3 of the broken water barrier sheet 1 is exposed to the contaminated water exuded from the garbage. Since the heating layer 3 is constituted with a hydrophilic material, the layer 3 positively absorbs the water into its organization. The water reacts with heating material and heat is yielded. A temperature sensor 4, which is located at the nearest position to the broken point, detects the partial heating of the heating layer 3. When said temperature sensor 4 is specified, the broken point of the water barrier sheet 1 is readily determined.
