PURPOSE: To minimize the number of weld points of a piping for which the cost of site welding is higher than the cost of shop welding by determining the number of welding and the number of standard-length materials from one end point of the piping up to the point in the prescribed region and determining the min. number of site welding and all limiting points of site welding then determining the optimum welding positions of the piping.
CONSTITUTION: The piping for which the cost of site welding is higher than the cost of shop welding is made object. The site weld line taking the transportation limit (the limit of the size at which the piping can be transported) into consideration is first minimized. The number of shop welding is then minimized within the range when the number of the site welding does not increase. Welding positions are thereafter so determined as to maximize the number of standard-length materials (purchased materials having a fixed size) to be used without cutting. As a result the welding positions of the piping are automatically determined in short time and the number of site welding is minimized. The effect of reducing the design period, the man-hour for designing, the cost of welding and the man- hour for maintenance is further obtd.
