Abstract:
PURPOSE: To easily, precisely, and quickly correct the image gradation of an original picture to be analyzed by dividing the image into a certain number of partial image and individually deciding the frequency distribution of the lightness components in image values and color values as a partial image histogram, and then, correcting the image gradation characteristic curve of the original image by using the histogram.
CONSTITUTION: Before starting the analysis of image gradation, a colored original image to be analyzed is roughly and finely scanned along scanning lines at every pixel by using a scanner 1. Color values R, G, and B so obtained are digitized, and distortion is given to the digitized values in accordance with a predetermined Munsell value as necessary, and then the color values for mapping conversion or phase- frequency homochromatic space selected by means of a color converter 7 are stores in a phase-frequency processing unit 8b. Then the color values obtained by a rough scanning are given to an original image analyzing unit 8c from the unit 8b, and the unit 8c inspects the original picture for graduation by using a mathematical or statistical technique. Thereafter, the gradation obtained as a result of this analysis is transferred to an operating terminal 8a for contrast correction and a preset value which varies, depending upon the picture is deduced for optimizing modification and correction.
