Abstract:
PURPOSE: To quickly and surely cut the fibers of the cover layer of a cable by cutting a cable in that position after inserting it from the side into the cut of a cutter, and bringing the fibers to a position, where they are distributed spreading over the edge of the cutter.
CONSTITUTION: A cable 31 is inserted from the side into the insertion apertures 29c at the sides of a set of cutting tools (for example, a press-cutting punch 12b and an under shoulder 13b) which essentially surround the cable 31 after the insertion, and fibers 30 are brought to a position extending along the edges of the tools 12b and 13b. Then, these fibers 30 are positioned, preferably being distributed in the range exceeding 180° of the periphery of the cable 31, and they are cut by the tools 12b and 13b in the position. Hereby, the fibers 30 of the cover layer of the glass fiber cable 31 can be cut quickly as well as surely, so that the length of the cut fibers may be uniform in length.
