PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily and efficiently decomposing a pollutant at a low running cost, and to provide a device therefor.
SOLUTION: This pollutant decomposition device for irradiating a material containing chlorine and a pollutant to be treated with light, comprising a vessel for receiving the material to be treated, a light-irradiating means for irradiating the material received in the vessel with light, and a light-reflecting portion for reflecting the light irradiated from the light-irradiating means, is characterized by placing the light-reflecting portion at a place for reflecting the light from the light-irradiating means to irradiate the material to be treated. The method for decomposing the pollutant, comprising irradiating the material containing the chlorine and the pollutant with light to decompose the pollutant, is characterized by having a process for irradiating the material to be treated with light, a process for reflecting the light irradiated in the above-described process, and a process for irradiating the reflected light in the reflection process on the material to be treated. A gas having a property for producing a free radical by the irradiation of light may be used instead of the chlorine.
