Abstract:
PURPOSE:To accurately measure the thickness and temperature of a roll-forming sheet material by radiating ultrasonic waves against the material, and detecting the actual propagation time of the ultrasonic waves and various physical property values related to the ultrasonic waves. CONSTITUTION:Ultrasonic vibrators 19 are provided on the outside of a pair of rolling rolls being used for rolling works, nip roll 13 nipped to a cooling roll being used for extending and thinning works, or touch roll 1 touched to the cooling roll 3. Then ultrasonic waves are radiated from the vibrators 19 to the material between the rolling rolls, cooling roll 3 and nip roll 13, or cooling roll 3 and touch roll 11 and reflected waves from both sides or one side of the material or waves transmitted by the material are received by the vibrators 19. Then various physical property values and propagation time of the actual ultrasonic waves obtained from the reflected or transmitted waves are fetched to an arithmetic operation processor 23. The processor 23 performs arithmetic processes on the data and the actual thickness or temperature of the material or the thickness and temperature of the material are accurately and certainly detected.
