METHOD AND DEVICE FOR EXTENDING SLUDGE FEED AND DISCHARGE PIPE

PURPOSE: To prevent muddy water from flowing out into a tunnel so as to eliminate the needs for disposing of the muddy water and for cleaning during muddy-water shielding work by using muddy water sealing members which are moved inside sludge pipes by hydraulic pressure when the sludge feed and discharge pipes are arranged and extended.
CONSTITUTION: Cylindrical muddy water sealing members 6, 7 each made from an elastic semi-hard material and having an outside diameter slightly greater than the bores of sludge and discharge pipes 2, 3 are shorted respectively in the storage portion 4 of the sludge feed pipe 2 and the storage portion 5 of the sludge discharge pipe 3. Valves 10, 20, 22, 17, 14 are closed and valves 12, 16, 21, 24 are opened to feed fresh water from a water feeding system 13 so that the muddy water sealing member 6 is pressurized and moved close to the valve 21 past a ductile portion 8 while muddy water is forced out. Then the valves 21, 16, 11 are closed and the valves 17, 22 are opened to force-feed the muddy water sealing member 7 close to the valve 22, and the ductile portions 8, 9 in which the muddy water is substituted by the fresh water are released to connect a new piping unit. After the connection, the required valves are opened or closed and the sealing members 6, 7 are forced back into the respective storage portions 4, 5 by the head pressure of muddy water from the ground while a drainage system 15 is operated.
