Abstract:

To achieve highly-efficient low-voltage/current output in a wide electric motor speed range by performing the commutation control of the positive maximum linear power supply voltage with the supply of virtual DC output by a multiple level - polyphase multiple circuit variable speed electric motor drive device and a pair of semiconductor switches for a direct-coupling type AC-AC converter without any intermediate DC link.

An electric motor drive device consists of a series of paired bi-directional switches that receives an AC voltage from an independent power supply and has an input terminal corresponding to each. The output of the paired switches is connected in series to apply each output voltage, thus obtaining a cumulative output voltage between a phase output terminal and a common neutral point terminal. A multiple level - polyphase multiple circuit electric motor drive device with one level, (n) input phases, and (k) circuits perform the Y connection of phase drivers 62a, 62k,..., 64a, 64k,..., 66a, 66k,..., 68a, 68k,... between a neutral point 60 and circuit output terminals 72a, 72k,..., 74a, 74k,... corresponding to each. The paired switches give a virtual DC power supply and continues commutation and control.
