PURPOSE: To decrease the directional defect in the section of a billet having a circular or hollow circular section in horizontal continuous casting of said billet by applying the rotative drive which induces the displacement in the rotating direction together with intermittent drawing drive to the billet from a mold.
CONSTITUTION: The billet 3 from a water cooled horizontal mold 2(2') coupled directly to the side wall of a tundish 1 is supported by supporting roll groups 4, is grasped by pinch rolls 5A, 5B and is drawn intermittently by the driving force applied thereto in the axial line direction X of the billet. The rolls 5A, 5B are disposed at a specified angle θ of inclination with respect to the direction perpendicular to the direction X. One of the pinch rolls is made driving roll and the other free rotating roll. Then the driving force F in the inclined direction is acted from the driving roll to the billet and the vector components of forces F1, F2 respectively in the directions X, X and the direction Y perpendicular thereto are generated from said force, by which the drawing amt. (x) in the direction X and the rotating amt. (y) are given.
