Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the generation of defective products by reducing a noise which occurs in a reproducing signal after the end of a recording operation in a thin magnetic head.
SOLUTION: The characteristic improving method includes a first procedure for measuring a popcorn noise in the reproducing signal RS of the thin magnetic head and judging whether the popcorn noise is within a permission range or not and a second procedure for causing a current which is a value being equal to or more than the value of the current in a normal recording operation to flow through a recording head 41 in the thin magnetic head. In the method, the first and second procedures are alternately repeated till it is judged that the popcorn noise is within the permission range by the first procedure or till the current value becomes a prescribed upper limit value while the value of the current caused to flow through the recording head 41 is gradually increased in the second procedure.
