Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the rupture of a plate between stands during rolling and enable hot rolling with high productivity adjusting the vertical intervals of clamp parts which clamp both end parts of the metal pieces when the metal pieces are jointed together.
SOLUTION: The end parts of the precedent and following metal pieces S1 and S2 are clamped and supported by couples of upper and lower clamp parts 10a and 10b, and 11a and 11b along the length, and joined together by being heated and then pressing against each other in a line direction. The lamp parts 10a and 10b, and 11a and 11b have clamping parts K1 and K2, and K3 and K4 which project toward the end parts of the metal pieces S1 and S2. The clamping parts K1 and K2 are long enough to come into contact with the metal pieces S1 and S2 and have mutual vertical intervals Sc adjusted by a position varying means 12. The vertical intervals are adjusted in consideration of the quantity of variation in vertical interval between the clamping parts K1 and K2, and K3 and K4 with loads placed on the clamp parts 10a and 10b, and 11a and 11b, the quantity of variation in vertical interval between the clamping parts K1 and K2, and K3 and K4 at the end parts of the metal pieces S1 and S2, etc.
