The merchandise managing device is provided with a merchandise master 5A storing a barcode given to merchandise in order to identify the merchandise and merchandise information corresponding to a JAN code shown by the barcode, and manages the merchandise by using the master 5A. Furthermore, the merchandise managing device is provided with a touch scanner 1 for reading the barcode of the merchandise, a processor 6 which investigates whether the JAN code shown by the barcode read by the scanner 1 is stored in the master 5A and prepares a temporary registration slip displaying the JAN code when the JAN code is not stored in the master 5A, and a printer 4 for outputting the temporary registration slip prepared by the processor 6.
