Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the method and device for transmission line capacitance measurement of a packet switching network which can measure the capacitance of a transmission line at a distance from a testing device sending test packets, specially, transmission capacitance of the line beyond a bottleneck.
SOLUTION: This method includes a procedure for sending out two test packets differing in a packet length to the packet switching network so that the test packet TP1 having long packet length and the test packet TP2 having short packet length succeed in this order, a procedure for receiving respective answer confirmation packets that each packet exchange having received the test packets TP1 and TP2 registers their reception completion timing and sends back, and a procedure for deciding the capacitance of the transmission line according to the difference between the reception completion timing points of the two test packets TP1 and TP2 registered in the answer confirmation packets.
