PURPOSE: To continuously enable the ombre dyeing of a web in good repeatability and in a high quality by reducing the immersing lengths of the web in a dyeing solution in turn and simultaneously increasing the concentration of the dye in the dyeing solution.

CONSTITUTION: A web 7 is hung with a hanging means 8 such as rolls while the immersing lengths of a web in a dyeing bath 1 are adjusted to such suitable those as to match to the ombre finish of the web 7 and dyed. The dyeing solution 4 is discharged and a concentrated dyeing solution 6 is charged into the dyeing solution 4 through a connecting pipe 3 due to the lowering of the surface 5A of the dyeing solution 4 while accompanying the lowering of the surface 5B of the concentrated dyeing solution in a supply tank 2, whereby the web is first dyed in a light color and subsequently dyed in a concentrated color at the portions of the web 7 below the lowered solution surface 5B. Since the lower portions of the web is dyed in the thick color, the ombre dyeing can be continuously applied to the web in good repeatability to express the natural ombre color having a high quality on the web.
