Abstract:
A pneumatically operated self- propelled ram boring device 2 for boring a hole 8 in the ground is supplied with compressed air through a hose 4 from a mobile compressor unit 6. The unit 6 comprises a compressor 18 driven by a motor 16 and a compressed air reservoir 22. To prevent the device 2 from freezing up owing to the cooling produced by the expansion of the air within it, which can happen under wintry conditions, the compressed air supplied through the hose 4 is heated. For this purpose, the compressor 18 and the reservoir 22 have heat insulation jackets 20 and 24 and the reservoir 22 is provided with an electrical heater 26 inside its jacket 24.
