PURPOSE: To prevent the local wear of a work roll and the seizure of a plate path by rolling a rolled plate while oscillating the same in the transverse direction thereof.
CONSTITUTION: A plate 10 is oscillated transversely by an edge position controller 11 operated by the signal from an oscillator 9 and is fed to a rolling mill 1, by which the plate is rolled. The work roll of the mill 1 is thus prevented from local wear and seizure. Since the plate is liable to snaking in this stage, the oscillation signal detected with an image sensor 14 is inputted to a rolling down controller 15, and a rolling down device 3 is controlled by the signal from the controller 15, whereby an unstable factor is eliminated. The signal from the sensor 14 is further inputted to a bender controller 16 as well by which a bender 2 is controlled and the unstable factor is eliminated with high accuracy. The plate 10 emerging from the mill 1 maintains still the oscillating state and therefore the oscillating state is detected with an image sensor 17 and an edge position controller 12 is operated in accordance with the detection signal, whereby the oscillation of the plate 10 is restrained.
