The castable refractories are press-fed in this state from the top end of the pipe 1 by operating a press-feed pump 8. A lifting device 3 is operated to start rising of the pipe 3 when the application surface A' slightly exceeds a supply port 1a at the bottom end of the pipe 1. The refractoies are thereafter press-fed and packed to the entire part of the space part C while the swiveling and rising of the pipe 1 are continued in such a manner that the supply port 1a at the bottom end of the press-feeding pipe is always placed under the surface A'. The intrusion of the air into the refractories at the time of packing is, therefore, obviated.
