Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce a chopped strand comprising a double twisted fiber strand aggregate having many radiate branches, retaining the shape of the collected product without using a binder, and used as reinforcing material for composite materials.

CONSTITUTION: A fiber strand 1 composed of 12000 PAN carbon fibers each having a diameter of approximately 7μm is pulled out from a bobbin 7 with a reciprocating device 15, while giving twists to the fiber strand 1 with a twister 11 in a twist rate of 80-100 twists per 100cm of the length of the strand. When the strand is pulled in a tension of 500g, one end of the strand is instantly chopped with a cutter 30.
