To provide a method for rapidly and effectively identifying and targeting specific cells found in a compound specimen in a biological tissue.
The invention provides a device for electromagnetically affecting a particle of interest in a specimen (600). The device includes a stage (500) capable of supporting the specimen; a detector including at least one camera (450), wherein the detector is capable of resolving a particle of interest within the specimen (600); a means for locating the particle of interest in three dimensions; a means for focusing electromagnetic radiation to a focal volume within the specimen; and a means for adjusting the relative positions of the stage and an electromagnetic radiation focusing means, thereby positioning the particle of interest within the focal volume.
