To provide an article storage and distributing device provided with a distributing means receiving a large quantity of articles such as newspapers from a printer and distributing the specified quantity to the destination without conventional work of binding the articles.
This device is provided with a large number of conveyor parts arranged almost parallel in a large number of vertical columns 22, 24, 26, 28, 30. The conveyor parts in each column are connected to each other by a diverter belt arranged at the end part of the column, and the last conveyor part in one column is connected to the first conveyor part in the adjacent column by an offset transfer conveyor. During operation, a lap stream of newspapers is supplied to a charging part of a storage device 10, moved in a meandering state along all the mutually connected conveyor parts in the first column, transferred to a second column across the transfer conveyor, moved there in the same way and moved in the same way in the remaining columns until reaching the end part of the last conveyor.
