PURPOSE: To efficiently treat the title waste soln. by heating and vaporizing the waste photographic processing soln., and bringing the vaporized gas into contact with a catalyst carrying group VIII elements, metals such as Cu, Zn, and Mn, or their compds.
CONSTITUTION: A photographic processing soln. is supplied to a vaporization vessel 3 from a supply pipe 1A, heated by a heater 4, and vaporized. Heat is exchanged between the vaporized gas and the waste soln. in a preheater 2, the gas is then cooled by a gas cooler 6 and then brought into contact with the catalyst 8, and gaseous NH3 is decomposed. The catalyst 8 carries group VIII elements consisting of Fe, Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir, and Pt and the metals such as Cu, Zn, and Mn or their compds. The distillate generated by cooling is stored in a distillate tank 9, and then discharged to the outside of the system.
