Abstract:
PURPOSE: To easily obtain a high quality optical fiber with a slight variation in outside diameter by restricting the taper shape of the molten part of a preform at the tip of the preform when an optical fiber is drawn.
CONSTITUTION: When the tip of a preform 1 is melted by heating and an optical fiber 2 is drawn from the molten tip part 1A, the inclination of the tapered surface of the molten tip part 1A represented by dlog(R(Z))/dz (where R(Z) is the radius (mm) of the part 1A corresponding to D and Z is the length (mm) of the part 1A corresponding to L) is regulated to ≤0.02mm-1.
