To provide a method for electrical heating a steel strip, which inhibits a temperature of a steel strip from lowering due to the removal of heat from the steel strip by a turning roll for changing a feeding direction of the steel strip arranged in an electrical heating range, reduces the unevenness of heat removal in a sheet width direction, makes the strip arrive at a target sheet temperature with accuracy even in the sheet width direction as well, and improves heating efficiency.
The method for electrical heating the steel strip is directed at inhibiting the temperature of the steel strip from lowering due to the removal of heat from the steel strip by the turning roll for changing the feeding direction of the steel strip and decreasing a deviation of the sheet temperature in the sheet width direction, in an electrical heating apparatus using a non-magnetic material roll having a thermal-sprayed ceramic coating formed on a roll surface as the turning roll for changing the feeding direction of the steel strip in the range of energizing the continuously-fed steel strip; and comprises the step of: when starting the electrical heating, heating a thick and wide steel strip to heat the turning roll approximately to the sheet temperature; and then heating a thin and narrower steel strip than that electrically heated for heating the turning roll.
