Title:
METHOD FOR ELECTRON BEAM MELTING OF ALLOY STEEL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0459936
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To remove S and P from a steel and to manufacture a high purity steel, in electron beam melting of an alloy steel by executing the melting by the use of a specified flux.

CONSTITUTION: The melting material 3 of an alloy steel is irradiated with a beam 2 generated from an electron gun 1 to drop molten drops 7 into a mold 4, and the inside of the mold 4 is also irradiated to form a molten pool 5 on the upper face of an ingot 6. The ingot 6 formed in the mold 4 is intermittently pulled out. In the above electron beam melting method, a flux 8 contg. ≥50% of one or ≥ two kinds among the oxides of alkali metal elements or alkaline earth metal elements is fed to the upper face of the molten pool 5 in the mold. By the reaction of the molten flux 8 with the molten pool 5, the removal of S and P is permitted.
