Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the occurrence of a state in which the error of effective information can not be corrected in a normal reproduction mode by performing the decoding of an error correction code after replacing a dummy information part by known dummy information at the error correction decoding.
SOLUTION: A signal g which is reproduced from a tape 100 is sent to an ECC 1 decoding circuit 121 and a stuffing data part detecting part 122. The circuit 121 performs decoding processing, based on an ECC 1 parity. A signal h after the decoding processing based on the ECC 1 parity is sent to a replacing circuit 123. The circuit 123 replace a part of stuffing data in the signal h after the decoding processing, based on the ECC 1 parity with stuffing data that is generated by a stuffing data generation circuit 114 in recording. An ECC decoding circuit 124 performs decoding processing, based on an ECC 2 parity and also, an ECC 3 decoding circuit 125 performs decoding processing, based on an ECC 3 parity.
