PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and efficiently extract lignin having a high molecular weight from a woody material.SOLUTION: A method for extracting lignin from woody biomass comprises a step A of grinding woody biomass with water to produce a composition including cellulose having an average fiber diameter of 10 to 800 nm, hemicellulose and lignin, a step B of immersing the composition into an ionic liquid to dissolve cellulose and hemicellulose included in the composition into the ionic liquid and a step C of separating solid matter including lignin from the ionic liquid after the step B.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
