To prevent generation of dioxins and white smoke or stench in exhaust gas stably while preventing abnormal combustion, e.g. explosion due to combustible components, even if unburnt combustible components are left in the exhaust gas at the time of purifying exhaust gas containing combustible components.
Combustible components in exhaust gas are combusted by supplying gas containing oxygen to the exhaust gas containing combustible components and the temperature of the exhaust gas is raised to a specified level or above. Subsequently, the exhaust gas is cooled quickly and further cooled by blowing dilution air from the tangential direction of an exhaust gas duct 34 having a circular transverse plane through a dilution air supply section 33 coupled with the exhaust gas duct 34. Alternatively, inner face of the exhaust gas duct is made of a nonmetallic material at at least a part being bonded to the dilution air supply section and the exhaust gas duct is coupled with the dilution air supply section and then the exhaust gas cooled quickly is further cooled by blowing the dilution air from the dilution air supply section.
