Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To supply nutrition to elderly patients in high density of calorie and in a readily absorbable form, by administering a nutrition composition comprising a high-level protein source, a carbohydrate source and a lipid source. SOLUTION: A nutrition composition comprising a protein source (e.g. caseinate) in an amount to provide at least 18% of the total calorie of the composition, (B) a carbohydrate source (e.g. multidextrin or sucrose) and (C) a lipid source containing a mixture of a middle chain triglyceride and a long- chain triglyceride is administered to elderly patients. Preferably the composition is mixed with vitamins and minerals in amounts to supply 100% daily acceptable amounts recommended by U.S.A. and a course of dietary fiber including a balance of soluble to insoluble fiber ratio of 4:1 to 1:4. The lipid containing the long-chain triglyceride of the component C is preferably designed to have the ratio of an n-t to n-3 fatty acid ratio of 4:1 to 10:1.
