To provide a method of producing a fluorine-containing dicarbonyl compound with economical advantage by reducing the loss in the fluorination step with increased space efficiency, simplifying the separation operation with easy reaction operation.
A compound (1) and a compound (2) are esterified to prepare a polyester in which the unit (3a) and the unit (3b) are alternately connected. Then, the resultant polyester is subjected to the liquid phase fluorination reaction to obtain the fluorinated polyester bearing the unit (4a) and the unit (4b) arranged alternately. Further, the ester bonds of the fluorinated polyester is decomposed to give the compound (5). [HO-CH(R1)-Q1-CH(R2)-OH...(1) X1CO-Q2- COX2...(2) -(O-CH(R1)-Q1-CH(R2)-O)-...(3a) -(CO-Q2-CO)-...(3b) -(O-CF(R1F)-Q1F- CF(R2F)-O)-...(4a) -(CO-Q2F-CO)-...(4b) CR1F(O)-Q1F-CR2F(O)...(5)] (wherein R1 and R2 are each H or an alkyl; R1F and R2F are each F or perfluoroalkyl; X1 and X2 are each a halogen; Q1 and Q2 are each a single bond or a divalent organic group wherein R1F, R2F, and Q1F are formed in the fluorination reaction).
