Abstract:
PURPOSE: To form a brown covering layer with tight adhesion by roughening a copper surface, subjecting the surface to an oxidation treatment and then postoxidizing with a metallic salt.
CONSTITUTION: A band-shaped copper material having 0.6 mm thickness is surface-roughened by a grinding belt and then is subjected to the oxidation treatment in a furnace of about 275°C under 25 volume % gaseous atmosphere. Then, after cooling for a short time, the copper material is dipped in an aq. soln. of a mixture composed of 50g/l potassium chlorate and 100g/l copper sulfate-5 hydrate at about 80°C working temp. After processing for about 2 to 3 minutes, the copper material is water-washed and is dried. By this treatment, a uniform covering layer with bright dark brown color is formed thereon. The brown patina suffers no damage in the covering layer even after subjecting to bending and chamferring and suffers no color change in the air over a long period of time.
