Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a large-sized glass block not contg. a crystal due to devitrification and substantially free of striae.
CONSTITUTION: A rod-shaped glass material 3 is arranged in a die 4 in a forming furnace 1. The furnace and/or the die are heated so that the atmosphere in the furnace is kept at the highest temp. and above the yield point of the glass material, and the glass material is pressed from both ends in its longitudinal direction and then cooled to obtain a compacted glass body.
