To provide a method for forming multilayer coating films, by which cured coating films excellent in abrasion resistance, contamination resistance, acid resistance, and finishing, for example can be formed.
The method for forming multilayer coating films comprises coating a material to be coated with a first clear coating material and coating an uncured or heat-cured first clear coating film with a second clear coating material, so as to form a second clear coating film, wherein the first clear coating film has a glass transition temperature of less than 70C and tan(loss elastic modulus/storage elastic modulus) of less than 0.4 at 80C and the second clear coating film has a glass transition temperature of 70C or higher as measured by dynamic viscoelastic measurement of the first clear coating film and the second clear coating film at frequency of 11 Hz, the first clear coating material and the second clear coating material contain as major ingredients an hydroxyl group-containing resin and a polyisocyanate compound, and coating is performed so that the film thickness of the second clear coating film after heat-curing ranges from 2 to 15 m.
