Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the surface of the stock of a Ti-Al intermetallic compound with heat resistance and wear resistance by thermally spraying the surface of the stock of a Ti-Al intermetallic compound with the mixed powder of the above Ti-Al intermetallic compound and thermodynamically unstable carbide ceramics.

CONSTITUTION: The surface of stock formed by a Ti-Al intermetallic compound is thermally sprayed with the mixed powder of the above Ti-Al intermetallic compound and carbide ceramics (such as MgC2, SiC and CaC2) thermodynamically unstabler than TiC. In this way, the carbide ceramics act a chemical reaction to form a structure contg. fine TiC and undissolved carbide ceramics, by which the stock suitable for the suction and exhaust valves of an internal combustion engine can be obtd.
